Tor Gustaf Nitzelius was a Swedish dendrologist, garden superintendent, and non-fiction author born on February 12, 1914, in Stockholm. He worked at Gothenburg Botanical Garden in the 1950s, creating the Japan Valley and authored several books on plant usage in parks and gardens. Advocating for the use of foreign lignosers in Sweden, he emphasized understanding their native growth conditions. He collected the Ulleungdo forsythia in South Korea in 1976 and is honored with a park in Alnarp. He passed away on August 11, 1999, and is buried at Norra begravningsplatsen in Stockholm.
