He served as Denmark's representative at the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad, Iraq, from May 2003 until June 29, 2005. His previous positions include Vice Consul in Saudi Arabia, Attaché in Mexico, and First Secretary at the Embassy in Budapest. Gettermann joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in March 1980 and participated in the documentary series 'Magtens billeder' in 2003/2004, focusing on his diplomatic experiences following the conclusion of combat operations in Iraq.
