Torstein Petersen was a Norwegian explosives expert who began working for the Statens Sprengstoffinspeksjon in 1957. He held the position of chief from 1976 until his retirement in 1996, supervising safety and regulations in explosives. Under his leadership, he contributed significantly to the field and was awarded the King's Medal of Merit in 1998 for his service. He was involved in various committees throughout his career and was regarded as a prominent figure in explosives safety in Norway.
