Toshihide Yamane was a Japanese professional baseball player, coach, manager, and commentator. He was born on March 1, 1928, in Yonago, Tottori Prefecture, and died on March 5, 2009, at the age of 81. He was known for his underhand pitching style and his success as a manager in Taiwan. Yamane played for the Mainichi Orions from 1950 to 1958, and after retiring, he became a baseball commentator for various radio and television stations. He later served as a coach and manager for several Japanese and Taiwanese teams, including the Sankei Atoms, the Toei Flyers, the Lotte Orions, the Taiyo Whales, the Brother Elephants, and the Kaohsiung Thunder. He led the Brother Elephants to two championships in 1993 and 1994, and was known as "Yama-ne Magic" for his coaching style. He was also the manager of the Kaohsiung Thunder in 1997 and 1999, leading them to a championship in 1998. Yamane is remembered for his dedication to baseball and his ability to develop young players.
