He served as a lieutenant colonel in the Imperial Japanese Army and later reached the rank of lieutenant general in the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, where he was the 11th Chief of Staff. Magari excelled in military education, graduating at the top of his class from several prestigious military institutions, including the Army War College. His career also included roles as a simple court judge and attorney.
