Since November 19, 2015, he has been the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Russian Federation, where he notably contributed to the negotiations regarding the Northern Territories issue under the Abe administration, although his efforts faced challenges due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
