Tudor S. Ratiu is a Romanian-American mathematician born on March 18, 1950, in Timișoara. He specializes in geometric analysis and dynamical systems. Ratiu obtained his diploma from the University of Timisoara in 1974 and earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1980. He has held faculty positions at the University of Michigan, University of Arizona, and University of California, Santa Cruz, where he is now a professor emeritus. His research interests include mechanics, symplectic geometry, and bifurcation theory. He is a fellow of the American Mathematical Society and a member of Academia Europaea.
