Tung Chee Hwa, born on May 29, 1937, in Shanghai, was the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region following its handover from the UK to China on July 1, 1997. He succeeded his father in running OOCL, which faced bankruptcy but was saved in 1986. He served a second term as Chief Executive starting in 2002, resigned on March 10, 2005, amid public protests. Currently, he is the Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and founded the US-China Trade Foundation in 2008.
