Known as 'Kiikan Maestro', he competed over seven decades from 1949 to 2003. Mäkelä was a pioneering trainer in Finland, instructing standardbred horses since they were permitted to race in 1959. His notable achievements include multiple wins, recognition as a top driver, and contributions to the development of the sport. He passed away at the age of 79 due to illness after a distinguished career, collecting numerous accolades.
