U. B. Wanninayake was a prominent Ceylonese politician born on November 23, 1905, in Kurunegala. He served as Minister of Finance from 1965 to 1970. An educator by profession, he was principal of Maliyadeva College from 1930 to 1947. Wanninayake first entered politics with a by-election in 1943 and later represented the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. He was elected to the Senate in 1955 and served in various capacities before his death on August 21, 1973.
