Ujjal Singha is a notable poet and Sahitya Akademy awardee from Kolkata. Born in Jharkhand, he holds a master's degree in Bengali from the University of Calcutta. Initially employed at a nationalised bank, he became a full-time poet in 2001. Singha is also an essayist and translator, recognized for translating works from Hindi, English, and French. He has authored over 20 books and has been the editor of the poetry magazine 'Ghorswar' for more than 25 years. His contributions include translating a novel by Krishna Sobti and poems by Franck André Jamme.
