Ulla Irmeli Pursiheimo is a Finnish mathematician, born on May 4, 1944. She made history by becoming the first female mathematics professor in Finland. Her research interests span multiple areas, including mathematical optimization, control theory, search games, and mathematics education. Pursiheimo completed her doctorate at the University of Turku in 1971, focusing on optimization strategies. She was appointed a full professor of mathematics at the University of Turku in 1974 and continued to contribute to academia until she became a professor emerita in 1999.
