Ulpiu Vlad is a Romanian composer born on January 27, 1945, in Zărneşti. He graduated from the Bucharest National University of Music in 1971 and later attended composition seminars by Virgilio Mortari in Rome. Apart from composing, he has researched Romanian folk music and worked at Editura Muzicală publishing house. Vlad served as head of the music department at the Romanian Ministry of Culture from 1992 to 1993 and became a professor at the National University of Music in 1993. He is married to composer Marina-Marta Vlad.
