Ulric Gustav Neisser (December 8, 1928 - February 17, 2012) was a German-born American psychologist and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Known as the 'father of cognitive psychology,' he researched and wrote about perception and memory, proposing that mental processes could be measured and analyzed. His 1967 book 'Cognitive Psychology' gained him significant recognition and was seen as a critique of behavioral psychology. Neisser also explored memory reconstruction, notably through studies on the Challenger space shuttle disaster.
