Umberto Forti (1901-1987) was an Italian mathematician and historian of science. He graduated in mathematics and physics and focused on science history and its educational applications. Advocating a return to humanistic values, he developed a new teaching methodology based on historical methods. After WWII, he founded and directed the magazine 'Il solco' and collaborated with many cultural publications. He authored and edited significant works on scientific thought and published several appreciated textbooks in mathematics and physics for high schools.
