Ümit Sayın was a Turkish medical doctor, born on January 14, 1961, in Istanbul. He served as a faculty member at the Istanbul University Institute of Forensic Medicine and earned his medical degree in 1987. Sayın held the position of assistant professor from 2001 to 2004, and he was promoted to associate professor in April 2004. In 2008, he was detained during the Ergenekon investigation and subsequently imprisoned for 23 months. He faced a four-year sentence in 2013. Sayın was found dead at his home on January 30, 2020.
