Uzra Butt, born Mumtaz on May 22, 1917, was an influential theatrical personality in the Indian subcontinent. She moved to Pakistan in 1964, which her sister Zahora Sahegal disapproved of. Starting her career in 1937, she performed as an actress and dancer with Uday Shankar's ballet troupe, traveling to Europe and America. After World War II, she joined the Indian People's Theatre Association and became a prominent female artist at Prithvi Theatre during the 1940s and 1950s.
