V. Kumar Murty is an Indian-Canadian mathematician born in 1956, known for his work in number theory, arithmetic geometry, and algebraic geometry. He studied at Carleton University, earning a bachelor's degree in 1977, and received his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1982 under the supervision of John T. Tate. He is a professor at the University of Toronto and has received several accolades, including the Coxeter-James prize and fellowship in the Royal Society of Canada. He collaborates closely with his brother, M. Ram Murty.
