He achieved the academic title of Doctor of Technical Sciences in 1970 and became a professor in 1972. Derkach was honored with the State Prize of the USSR in 1977 for his contributions to the field of cybernetics. He passed away on August 18, 2012, in Kyiv, Ukraine.
