Vladimir Petrovich Makridin was a Ukrainian and Soviet geologist and paleontologist born on May 5, 1915, in Riga, Latvian Governorate, Russian Empire. He became a Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences in 1959 and was appointed as a professor in 1961. Makridin was recognized for his contributions to science and technology, being named an Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the Ukrainian SSR in 1980 and an honorary member of the All-Union Paleontological and Geological Societies in 1985. He passed away on April 27, 2001, in Moscow.
