V. S. Achuthanandan, born on October 20, 1923, is an Indian political leader known for serving as the Chief Minister of Kerala from 2006 to 2011. He chaired the Kerala Administrative Reforms Commission from 2016 to 2021 and held the position of Leader of the Opposition in Kerala Legislative Assembly three times. A member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Central Politburo from 1985 until his dismissal in 2009 due to ideological differences, he initiated various reforms, including land recovery in Munnar and anti-piracy efforts in the film industry.
