Vagn Steen (1928–2016) was a Danish poet born in Holbæk. He earned a cand.mag in Danish and history from Aarhus University in 1956 and later became a professor of concrete poetry in the U.S.A. Steen introduced concrete poetry to Denmark, publishing works and exhibiting visual poems and poem objects beginning in 1963. He lectured internationally, including in cities like Cape Town and Johannesburg, and he advocated for a more democratic and playful literature that was accessible to a wider audience, not just the intellectual elite.
