In 1957, he joined Rolls-Royce, becoming the manager and chief engineer of the rocket departments responsible for the Blue Streak missile and Black Arrow launch vehicle engines. His work on Blue Streak was recognized with an OBE award, highlighting the success of the project's readiness despite ELDO's challenges.
