Michael Valentine O'Donovan (1936–2005) was a Canadian businessman known for founding COM DEV, a leader in satellite communications technology. Born in Cork, Ireland, he graduated as an electrical engineer and worked at RCA before starting COM DEV. He served as Chancellor of the University of Waterloo from 1997 to 2003, receiving several honors, including being named a Member of the Order of Canada. Val O'Donovan was also involved in charitable work, co-founding a hospice in Waterloo Region. He had a passion for gardening and wine and passed away in Bermuda.
