Valdar Viires (1934-1990) was an Estonian choir conductor, music journalist, and music educator. He graduated from the Tallinn State Conservatory in 1958, specializing in choir conducting. Viires worked as a senior teacher at the Estonian National University and led the music department of the newspaper Sirp ja Vasar. From 1975 until his death, he served as a senior teacher at the Tallinn State Conservatory's choral department. He founded a girls' choir named after Jaan Tombak and was its conductor for life.
