Sorokin served as a professor at the law faculty of Leningrad State University and was the vice-rector of the Leningrad Higher Party School. He also taught at the St. Petersburg University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia from 1992 and was recognized as a Distinguished Scientist of the Russian Federation in 1999.
