Valentin Zakharov (born August 9, 1940) is a Russian theoretical physicist who studied at the Moscow Institute of Physical Technology, graduating in 1963. He earned his Doctorate equivalent in 1966 at the Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics (ITEP), where he worked until 1990. Later, he joined the Max Planck Institute for Physics in Munich, and became a professor at the University of Michigan in 1993. Zakharov is notable for his collaboration with Arkady Vainshtein and Mikhail Shifman on non-perturbative aspects of quantum chromodynamics, leading to the SVZ sum rule.
