Valery Fomin is a Soviet and Russian film scholar, critic, and historian, born on April 18, 1940, in Novosheshminsk, USSR. He holds a doctorate in arts and is a full member of the Nika Film Academy. Fomin has been recognized with awards from the Union of Cinematographers and the Guild of Film Scholars and Critics. An accomplished author on film history, he serves as a professor and deputy head of the management department in cinema and television at the State University of Management, and is the founder of the All-Russian Open Film Education project.
