Valery Dmitrievich Povolyayev is a Soviet and Russian prose writer, artist, and correspondent born on September 13, 1940, in Svobodny. He is a recognized figure in the arts in Russia, awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation in 2001 and Honored Worker of Culture of the RSFSR in 1980. In 2018, he received the State Prize of the Russian Federation named after Marshal of the Soviet Union G. K. Zhukov for contributions in literature and art.
