Van E. Chandler was an American military officer and flying ace, born on March 5, 1925. He achieved fame during World War II as the youngest flying ace in the U.S. Armed Forces, credited with destroying five enemy aircraft. Chandler also served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1974 holding the rank of colonel. He passed away on March 11, 1998, leaving behind a legacy as a distinguished aviator and military leader.
