Van Ikin, born on November 25, 1951, is an academic and science fiction writer. He served as a professor of English at the University of Western Australia until his retirement in 2015 and is now a senior honorary research fellow. Ikin has supervised several notable Australian science fiction writers and received an award for his excellence in teaching postgraduate research. He is well-known for editing the long-running critical journal Science Fiction and has been a reviewer for The Sydney Morning Herald since 1984.
