Vaqif Cəfərov was a prominent Azerbaijani politician born on April 18, 1949, in Shusha, Nagorno-Karabakh. He served as a member of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and as a deputy of the USSR. He held significant roles including the first secretary of Shusha District Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan and deputy minister of the industry and construction of the Azerbaijan Republic. Cəfərov tragically died on November 20, 1991, when the Mi-8 military helicopter he was in was shot down near the Khojavend district during a conflict.
