An academician of the Georgian Academy of Sciences since 1944, he dedicated his career to linguistic research and teaching at Tbilisi State University and the Institute of Linguistics. Notably, he contributed to the study of Kartvelian languages, publishing over 150 works and playing a key role in establishing modern standards for the Georgian literary language. He received multiple honors, including the Lenin Order and is buried at the Writers' Pantheon in Tbilisi.
