Vartan Malakian is an Iraqi Armenian-American musician and artist born on February 14, 1947, in Mosul, Iraq. He is one of the founding members of the band System of a Down and also participated in the band Scars on Broadway. He is the father of the famous heavy metal musician Daron Malakian. His contributions to music, particularly in the metal genre, have been significant, showcasing his dual talent in both performance and artistry.
