Vasil Ivanov Kotsev was a Bulgarian officer in the State Security who held the rank of lieutenant general. Born in 1922, he became involved in communist organizations as a youth and joined the State Security in 1948. Kotsev worked in external intelligence and served as its chief from 1973 until 1986.
