Vasili Nikitich Mitrokhin (March 3, 1922 - January 23, 2004) was a Soviet intelligence officer and chief archivist known for defecting to the UK in 1992. He provided the British embassy in Riga with extensive files on Russian intelligence operations, leading to the Mitrokhin Archive, which revealed numerous Russian agents, including spy Melita Norwood. Mitrokhin co-authored 'The Mitrokhin Archive: The KGB in Europe and the West' with Christopher Andrew, detailing extensive Soviet intelligence activities. A second volume, published posthumously, titled 'The Mitrokhin Archive 2: The KGB in the World,' continued his revelations.
