Vasiliy Vasilievich Zakusov was a prominent Soviet pharmacologist, born on April 13, 1903, in Saint Petersburg and died on January 4, 1986, in Moscow. He became a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences in 1948 and became a full member in 1952. Zakusov was honored as a distinguished figure in science of the RSFSR in 1976. He served as the director of the Pharmacology Institute of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences from 1954 to 1979 and was the second vice-president of the International Union of Pharmacology (IUPHAR) from 1972 to 1975.
