Vato Gruev was a prominent Bulgarian scientist and the first rector of the High Institute of Zootechnics and Veterinary Medicine in Stara Zagora from 1974 to 1983, which later became Thracian University. He was involved in numerous academic and scientific organizations and authored over 160 works, including scientific papers and textbooks. His research focused on the growth patterns of various livestock, relationships between livestock traits, and dairy functions. A commemorative plaque honoring him was placed in Thracian University in Stara Zagora in 2015.
