Veijo Yrjö Ilmari Taipalus, born on December 17, 1958, in Kauhajoki, is a retired Finnish rear admiral and served as the Commander of the Finnish Navy from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2018. He graduated from the Cadet School in 1984 and held various positions, including instructor, defense attaché, and rector of the National Defence University before his retirement. He was promoted to the rank of general officer in 2011 and was succeeded by Rear Admiral Jori Harju on November 9, 2018.
