Veikko Kaseva (1928-1978) was a Finnish pioneer in hot air ballooning, known for constructing Europe's first hot air balloon in 1966. He started ballooning in 1959 with a paper balloon and later built a significant 1,700 cubic meter balloon that could carry a three-person crew. Kaseva represented Finland in international ballooning competitions and is fondly remembered for his eccentric teaching style at Oulunkylä Community School, where he inspired students with hands-on projects, including building mini hot air balloons.
