Veikko Ilmari Porkkala (1908-2009) was a Finnish communist activist and trade unionist who played significant roles in labor unions and the Communist Party. After his father, a socialist, was killed during the Civil War, Porkkala joined the Finnish Woodworkers' Union in 1927 and later the Communist Party. He faced imprisonment for his activism but continued to climb the ranks in labor organizations, ultimately becoming general secretary of a major trade union until his retirement in 1983. In later years, he pursued painting, showcasing his work at a 100th birthday celebration.
