Veljo Kalep (December 12, 1934 – November 26, 2012) was an Estonian engineer and athlete. He graduated from Pärnu 1st High School in 1953 and studied at the University of Tartu from 1953 to 1956. He completed his studies in industrial and civil engineering at TPI in 1966 and furthered his education in bridge design at the University of Toronto in 1990. Kalep became known for his political activism, having faced imprisonment from 1980 to 1984, and later migrated to Canada in 1987, where he continued his engineering career.
