Věněk Šilhán was a Czech and Czechoslovak economist, born on February 12, 1927, in Kněževes and passed away on May 9, 2009, in Prague. He was a member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ) before 1969 and was a supporter of the reformist movement. He played a prominent role during the Vysočany Conference of KSČ in August 1968, and during normalization, he became a dissident and signatory of Charter 77. After the revolution, he was an activist in the Civic Forum and served as a member of the Federal Assembly for the Civic Democratic Party and later for the Czech Social Democratic Party.
