He represented various political parties, including SDS, the National Union, and the Union for National Salvation. Dimitrov was a prominent supporter of Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha's return to Bulgaria. His political career saw a significant turn when he left the SDS and OHDTS in 1994. He was also one of the founders of NDSV and was removed from the candidate list due to accusations of past collaboration with the State Security, although a court later ruled there was no evidence against him.
