Vera Samuilovna Krepkina was a retired Soviet Russian athlete born on April 16, 1933, in Kotelnich, Russia. She represented the Soviet Union at the Olympics in 1952, 1956, and 1960, specializing in long jump and short distance races. Her most notable achievement came in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, where she won a surprising gold medal with a jump of 6.37 meters, breaking the world record and outperforming previous Olympic champion Ewa Kliszynska and former world record holder Hilde Rone. After retiring, she worked as a children’s athletics coach in Ukraine.
