During World War II, she served with the RAF's Air Transport Auxiliary, playing a critical role in the war effort. Importantly, she was the first British woman to fly an operational jet fighter, achieving this milestone on 15 September 1945, when she ferried a Meteor aircraft from the Gloster factory to RAF Moreton Valence.
