Vicente Ridaura Álvarez was a Spanish surgeon born on December 12, 1909, in Carlet, Spain. He joined the Republican Army as a provisional medical lieutenant at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. After the war, he was exiled to Mexico, where he worked at Tampico hospital and founded the Faculty of Medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas in 1950. He was also the first holder of the physiology chair at this faculty. Ridaura Álvarez passed away on August 28, 1980, in Tampico, Mexico.
