Initially developed in 1974 as a fund-raiser for the Childbirth Education Association in Minneapolis, the cookbook catered to new mothers and included recipes for homemade baby food. The project's success led Lansky and her husband to establish a publishing company, Meadowbrook Press, to distribute the book nationally. Their professional collaboration ended following their divorce in the early 1980s, after which Lansky retained ownership of their lake-front home.
