Victor Assad Najjar (1914-2002) was a Lebanese-American pediatrician and microbiologist known for his work on Crigler-Najjar syndrome. Born in Beirut, he graduated from the American University of Beirut in 1935, later moving to the U.S. to train at Johns Hopkins Hospital before becoming faculty there from 1949 to 1957. He then served as a professor and head of microbiology at Vanderbilt University. In 1952, he described Crigler-Najjar syndrome with John Fielding Crigler. Najjar also held positions at the American Cancer Society and Tufts University until 1984. He passed away on November 30, 2002, in Nashville, Tennessee.
