Victor Matthys was a Belgian politician who led the Rexist Party during World War II, succeeding Léon Degrelle. As an early supporter of the Rexist movement, he managed the party newspaper and became propaganda director in 1941. His leadership was marked by ineffective governance and violent reprisals, including the ordering of a massacre in Courcelles. This heavy-handed approach led to increased scrutiny, ultimately resulting in his resignation from leadership in favor of Louis Collard. Matthys was executed post-war for collaborating with the Nazis.
